Homemade Chalk Paint = Easy Fun!

Posted on August 23, 2013 by Darcy Le Fleming | 0 comments

A couple of weeks ago, Nadia had a great time painting with homemade chalk paint at Mi Casita Day Camp and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it is easy to make. All you need is corn starch, water and food coloring.

Mix the water and cornstarch in equal portions and add food coloring. That's it!  We used gel food coloring which gave us these awesome neon colors. She played with it much longer than I expected and her favorite part was mixing the colors to make shades of purple.

She even used it to paint on paper once she was bored with painting the concrete. All together, I had 45 minutes to myself, virtually undisturbed. (Yay!) We will definitely be making this again.

In case you were wondering, it washed off of our patio quite easily during the next rain. My only warning is that if you use it as finger paint, you will probably have stained fingers for day or so but this was probably because of the kind of food coloring that I used. Happy painting!
