How to make my bk baby paper flowers

When we wrap a gift at My Brooklyn Baby, it is topped with a handmade paper flower. Anyone working in the store is generally making flowers in my little "paper flower sweatshop" which has inspired onlookers to ask how they are made so, I am going to attempt to teach you how to make them. This is my first "how-to" post so I hope it makes sense!

step 1 - Gather supplies. You will need tissue paper, paper straws, hang tags, washi tape, scissors and ribbon. If you are looking for washi tape or paper straws, I buy them here but you can find them all over the internet.

step 2 - Cut your tissue paper into strips about 5 inches wide and 6 inches long.

step 3 - Layer five pieces of paper together and fold back and forth as if you were making a paper fan -the folds should be about a 1/2 inch wide.

step 4- Fold your "fan" in half and tie a ribbon around the center, leaving a tail of ribbon one inch longer than your straw.

step 5- Trim your flower petals into curves or points.

step 6- Tape tags to your straws using washi tape, you can use the tags to write a little message.

step 7- Thread the ribbon through the straw, pull tight  and tape off with more washi tape.

step 8- Fluff your flower. To do this, take one layer at a time and gently separate from the other layers.

step 9- Pat yourself on the back, you did it!
